This week I have been mostly...

  • Playing around with this nice bit of software that is designed to stop you doing a 'Death Magnetic' on your mixes - the TT Dynamic Range Meter. It's free to use so if you record your own music you should check it out... see how easy it is to rob all your hard earned work of its dynamics!
  • Trying out some of the mix techniques invented (?) by Michael Brauer - who has an interesting but pretty complex way to give everything in your mix the space it deserves.
  • Noting Trent Reznor's comments on what to do as a new/unknown artist - http://bit.ly/8Ar8u. All makes good sense... it is a bit of a shame that music has no monetary value any more. Not that we're in it for the money, of course.
  • Enjoying Journal for Plague Lovers by the Manics. One of their best and I really like the Bradfield guitar tone: http://bit.ly/1608wV.
  • Enjoying Psychoville - even better than League of Gentlemen in my humble opinion.
  • Watching all the moon landing documentaries - did they really get there using computers with less power than the laptop I'm writing this on?!

OK, I've had a bit of time off work!
